As we are well into the final year of our five-year strategic business plan, it is evident that GVEC is not only keeping pace, but also setting new standards in several areas and aspects of service. While outlining action plans, metrics and goals on paper are essential, execution is where the real work happens. By building strong relationships and positioning ourselves for adaptability, we’ve created a cooperative equipped to serve the needs of today and confidently meet the challenges of the future. We know this because we hold ourselves accountable to the strategic plan and do the things we set out to do. In this fast-moving world, our best hedge against uncertainty is our commitment to continue evolving as the people, communities, and industries we serve continue to grow and change themselves.
GVEC remains one of the nation’s fastest-growing electric cooperatives, and 2024 was a record-setting year. We surpassed 3,700 net new electric meters—the highest annual increase yet—while our internet services saw continued strong demand with over 3,500 new Fiber To The Home installations. Our Beyond the Meter services saw steady growth as well, with new offerings including our online Web Scheduler for AC/heating, electrician and solar and battery estimates. Battery installations continued to increase in large part due to the newly launched Peak-Time Payback program rebates for installing Enphase and Tesla Powerwall battery systems. Through our diverse services, we’re providing more ways than ever before for members and customers to stay connected, better manage their energy costs, and play an important role in viable solutions that support the long-term stability of the Texas grid.
This steady growth reflects our commitment to balancing service with innovation, technology and affordability. This is especially true as the energy and technology industries are evolving faster than ever, bringing challenges and opportunities with them.
As we work to finish the five-year cycle, our foundation is stronger than ever before. Looking ahead, the challenge for my team and me is how swiftly we can continue to adapt to change and make those changes work for the benefit of our customers. For nearly 87 years, GVEC has made a lasting impact in the region because we are willing to do things differently. Many of our products, services and landmark projects are a testament to our curiosity, creativity and connections. Thanks to our team’s dedication and the trust of those we serve, we’ll continue to progress in delivering power, connectivity and service that truly makes a difference.
