Many people in the Guadalupe Valley may know of GVEC as an electric cooperative. While this is true, it’s important to know GVEC delivers much more than electricity to a much larger base than GVEC members.
Why Do We Deliver More?
The answer to this question lies very much in our history. Our founding over 80 years ago was based on the need to deliver service where no one else would. We saw the need and recognized the value it would bring. In that case, the service was electricity.
We’re still a local electric cooperative, providing reliable electricity in 13 counties. However, in our mission to deliver more, we strive to identify products and services that are needed to fulfill voids—just as our founders did. This means as consumer expectations grow and evolve, so do our service options.
Today, we’re a local Cooperative that provides electric, internet and beyond the meter services such as AC/heating, electrician services, and solar and battery storage solutions.
Connecting in Today’s World
In the mid-to-late 1990s, many households began dialing up to dial in to the internet. However, much like with the innovation of electricity, many rural homes were left in the dark when it came to internet. Those that did have phone lines extended to their home for dial up service often faced long distance charges with the phone number they were issued to use the dial up service. GVEC.net (now GVEC Internet) offered an affordable option with local dial up internet service.
Not long after, GVEC.net invested in the infrastructure to offer high-speed wireless internet. By 2013 we began delivering state-of-the-art Fiber to the Home, the fastest internet technology available in the world.
Going Beyond the Meter
We refer to the “beyond the meter” services we offer as such because they do just that—deliver valuable products and services that extend beyond the meter and into homes and businesses to customers beyond the Cooperative membership. We do this to provide quality, home comfort and help increase energy efficiency to a larger population throughout South Central Texas.
A prime example of this is our AC/heating services that we began providing in 1968. As heating and cooling your home is the number one contributor to your monthly electric bill, we’re knowledgeable about the direct, positive impact a correctly sized and installed, and properly maintained HVAC system can have on energy efficiency.
In more recent years, the growing demand for renewable energy solutions has led our offerings to include solar and battery storage solutions, as well as professional electrician services.
