Connecting Past, Present and Future Through Good Food
No matter where the future leads, the past is always with us, guiding our thinking and influencing our decisions along the course we take. At GVEC, this mindset factors into nearly every decision we make, and it played a role in our decision this year to dip into the archives for our 2021 free recipe calendar: “Archival Revival.”
Finding Common Ground Around the Table
The rise and evolution of electricity and technology across the Guadalupe Valley has had a huge impact on how and what we eat. Few, if any, of the recipes appearing in this year’s calendar—even those going back to the 1930s—would be possible without electricity and modern conveniences like electric stoves, ovens and refrigerators. Plus, no matter the era or its level of technology, the world runs on food. What we eat, how we eat, when we eat and who we eat with shapes many important aspects of life. Simply stated, food is a big part of helping bring people together—always has been, always will be.
We Took Recipes from a Range of Sources, Old and Recent
Archival Revival draws from past issues of our monthly newsletter, The GVEC Review, spanning the decades, and from The REA Review. We’ve also included entries from vintage co-op cookbooks and from past GVEC Recipe calendars.
