GVEC is pleased to present Dina Dillon with our 2024 Individual Public Service Award. Dina Dillon is a Navy veteran who has been married to her husband Brett for 35 years and lives in Seguin. Together, they have raised four sons—Donovan, Connor, Alastair, and Chandler. Their family circle also includes their daughters-in-law and five grandchildren.
While living in Chattanooga, Tennessee, Dina pursued education as an adult, earning an Associate in Science in general education and an Associate in Applied Science in American Sign Language. Despite the demands of motherhood, she persisted and obtained a Bachelor of Science in organizational management from Covenant College, all while working full-time.
Throughout her life, Dina has held various roles, from human resources to teaching. However, it was her involvement with the Young Marines program that truly ignited her passion for service. Since joining as a volunteer in 2002, Dina has dedicated herself wholeheartedly to empowering young minds, serving as a director on the Board and organizing transformative trips and experiences for countless youths.
In 2007, Dina and her family relocated to Seguin, where she continued with her community engagement and volunteering. From starting the Guadalupe Valley Young Marines program— celebrating its 15th year this past June, to volunteering with organizations like Toastmasters, Heroes On the Water and the SS American Memorial, Dina’s impact has been profound and far-reaching.
Her commitment to service has not gone unnoticed. Dina has received numerous accolades, including the 2020 Volunteer of the Year award from the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce in Seguin and the Seguin Gazette’s Vision Award in 2023. Last year, she also earned the Presidential Volunteer Service award—Bronze and Silver and was a Lifetime award qualifier with over 4,000 volunteer hours.
Currently employed at the Guadalupe County Veteran Services, Dillon continues to advocate for patriotism, volunteerism and community service. Congratulations, Dina! Your selfless dedication and passion for serving others is an inspiration to us all. Thank you for your service and for making our communities stronger, more vibrant, and more inclusive.
