The Power Up community grant program continues to grow, with 11 more nonprofit organizations receiving just over $199,000 in grants. These grants, which provide funding assistance for community projects, are made possible by the generous donations of GVEC members supporting the charitable Power Up program.

Since the first grant distribution in 2012, more than $4 million in grants have helped fund 250 community projects benefiting GVEC members and citizens in communities GVEC serves. These projects range from the purchase of life-saving equipment for first responders and medical facilities to the renovation of local museums, parks, historic places and community meeting spaces.

In the most recent round of distributions, the Power Up grants awarded during this cycle include: $20,000 to The Chisholm Trail Heritage Museum, Inc., Cuero, for historic building restoration; $20,000 to the City of Cibolo, Cibolo, for Al Rich Park pond improvements through the Partnered Trailways project; $16,510 to the City of Cuero Police Department, Cuero, for portable radio replacements; $20,000 to the Crisis Center of Comal County (a dba of Comal County Family Violence Shelter), New Braunfels, for playground equipment; $20,000 to Cuero Volunteer Fire Department, for six new sets of bunker gear and boots; $20,000 to DeWitt Medical Foundation, Cuero, for mobile and portable radio upgrades; $10,317.99 to Gonzales County Senior Citizens Association, Inc., Gonzales, for three commercial freezers for the Home Delivered Meal program; $17,506 to Habitat for Humanity® of San Antonio and Guadalupe Valley, San Antonio, for power tools; $20,000 to Knights of Columbus #2433, Hallettsville, for re-roofing the pavilion; $20,000 to Marion Volunteer Fire Department, Marion, for 10 new sets of bunker gear; and $15,000 to Texas Ramp Project, Richardson, for 15 residential ramps through the Victoria North Region.

GVEC Community Relations Representative Christine Presley stated, “The program aims to ensure that funded projects significantly benefit our membership. We’re pleased to see organizations using the grant funds to improve public spaces and services, promoting safety, social and educational initiatives. Although the process is competitive, we are available to answer questions, assist with the application process and ensure that application packets are complete.”

The next application deadline for the Power Up community grant program is February 17, 2025. Learn more about the Power Up program here, or contact Christine Presley at 830.857.3424 for assistance. Grant applications are also available at GVEC’s five area offices.
