In South Central Texas, many towns like the ones within the GVEC service area have a long-standing relationship with high school football.
For many local residents, the anticipation of the inaugural season kickoff compares to the excitement of children waiting for Santa on Christmas Eve. Weeks before the first home game, the smell of concession stand popcorn and the sounds of drum cadences and buzzing from those Friday night lights resonate in their heads. And for the most enthusiastic of fans, the thought of missing a game is the ultimate FOMO.
Local Radio to the Rescue
Luckily, for fans that may not be able to attend every game in-person, there’s good ol’, tried-and-true local radio. For decades, local radio stations have been the media source many people trust for accurate regional news and politics, area weather updates and warnings, and of course, neighborhood sports.

In fact KWED Radio AM 1580 has been broadcasting local games in Seguin and surrounding areas since 1948. According to KWED Sales Manager Nick Spence, broadcasting for local teams is an especially big deal in smaller towns and communities. It provides a way for friends, relatives and alumni—no matter how far away they may be—to listen in and be a part a loved-one’s game or to not miss any of the big plays from their alma mater’s season.
