What is Peak-Time Payback?
Peak-Time Payback is the latest GVEC peak time rewards program. It helps Cooperative members curb household electricity usage during highest-use times along the grid. These times, officially known as “peak times,” occur twice daily (6 to 9 a.m. and 3 to 7 p.m.). Peak-Time Payback focuses on cutting usage during afternoon peaks, when people are coming home from work and school, starting dinner, running appliances, turning on the TV, etc. ERCOT uses GVEC’s share of energy across the state grid during June-September peak times to determine our transmission costs the following year. Cutting back overall use during this window can help keep rates stable for everyone. Participants earn a one-time $85 bill credit for signing up and a $30 bill credit each year they’re enrolled from May 31 to Sept. 30.

Enrollment in Peak-Time Payback requires an internet-connected, “smart” or “learning” thermostat. GVEC sells two Peak-Time compatible brands: Nest® and the ecobee SmartThermostat with voice control.
